firearm crime. and these are all well within the power of the president of the united states. but as president obama said yesterday, some people will use these measures to make gun owners fearful. >> even the slightest hint of some sensible, responsible legislation in this area fans this notion that somehow here it comes. and that everybody's guns are going to be taken away. >> when it comes to executive , president obama is hardly a tyrant. this president has issued the fewest executive orders of any president in over a century. there will be no executive order on the second amendment. this hasn't stopped the obama haters from ramping up their resistance. tea party senator rand paul is driving the campaign of fear. >> i'm against having a king. i think having a monarch is what we fought the american revolution over. and someone who wants to bypass the constitution, bypass congress, that's someone who wants to act like a king or a monarch. i've been opposed to executive orders even with republican president. but one that wants to infringe on the second amendment, we will fight tooth

faith and credit of the united states would be a financial disaster? >> that would be a financial disaster, not only for our country, but for the worldwide economy. >> and president obama reminded congress the economic damage done by playing games with the debt limit. >> the last time republicans in congress even flirted with this idea, our aaa credit rating was downgraded for the first time in our history. our businesses created the fewest jobs of any month in nearly the past three years and, ironically, the whole fiasco actually added to the deficit. >> republicans basically had no choice but to retreat from their hard line position, negotiating with the american people. if the country defaulted, they would be responsible for a global economic collapse. the new plan for a three-month increase guarantees another debate in the next few months. okay, let's have it. it also shows republicans never had any intention on carrying out their threats. get your cell phones out. want to know what you think tonight. tonight's question, do republicans finally realize the consequences of holdi

course, the united states constitution gives the power to spend to congress. the result is the money congress has already borrowed. president obama explained to the american people in congress how they're trying to do their actual jobs. >> these are bills that are racked up. and we need to pay them. so while i'm we'illing to find compromise on how to pay our debts, americans should not be stopped from paying the bills we racked up. >> the country will be in a dire situation. president obama knows this. he proved it before, and he is not going to play games with economic stability. >> so we have to pay our bills. and republicans in congress have two choices here, they can act responsibly and pay america's bills. or they can act irresponsibly and put america through another economic crisis. but they will not collect a ransom in exchange for crashing the american economy. the financial well being of the american people is not leverage to be used. the full faith and credit of the united states of america is not a bargaining chip. and they had better choose quickly, because time is runnin

. of course, the united states constitution gives the power to tax and spend to the congress, and the congress alone. our current deficit is the result of money congress has already borrowed. president obama explained to the american people today how republicans in congress are trying to avoid doing their actual jobs. >> these are bills that have already been racked up. and we need to pay them. so while i'm willing to compromise and find common ground over how to reduce our deficits, america cannot afford another debate with this congress about whether or not they should pay the bills they've already racked up. >> if the american people do not catch on to the severity of all of this, of defaulting on our debts, the country will be in a dire situation. president obama knows this. he believes it. he has proved it before. and he is not going to play games with economic stability. >> so we've got to pay our bills. and republicans in congress have two choices here. they can act responsibly and pay america's bills, or they can act irresponsibly and put america through another economic crisi

the united states think about what president obama has done for the progressive movement in this country in the democratic party. how can you not stand with him on this? how much more information do these lawmakers need? have we not covered it enough? other democratic senators with high ratings from the national rifle association have also refused to say if they support the president's package. max baucus of montana, senator heidi heitkamp of north dakota, senator johnson of south dakota. senator donnelley of i7d ind. senator begich of alaska, senator manchin of west virginia, senator tester of montana. however, senator mark warner spoke out in favor of the president's plan and said he believes it has bipartisan support. those senators all have a or a-plus ratings from the national rifle association. reid has a b rating. these senators know they will lose their high rating and maybe become a target with the nra if they vote for a sensible assault weapons ban. you see, we had the assault weapons ban back in 1994, but we're so screwed up in washington right now they're even afraid
